Company Introduction
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a landlocked countryin the Horn of Africa Region. Characterized by a complex ofhighlands and mountains, with the Great Rift Valley dissecting thelands from southwest to northeast, the geography of Ethiopia hasbrought about great variations in climate, soils, flora and faunadiversity, as well as indigenous cultures with distinctivelivelihood patterns. Ethiopia is a biodiversity hotspot, belongingto a highland-lowland system with resources unequally distributedbut dynamically interlinked (McKee, 2007). Ethiopia is one of thetwelve Vavilov Centres of crop diversity, and is considered theprimary gene centre for various field crops such as Noun (Guizotiaabyssinica), Teff (Eragrostis tef), and Ethiopian mustard (Brassicacarinata) (Institute of Biodiversity Conservation, 2005). Theworldâs most important cash crop, Arabica coffee (Coffea Arabica),originates from the montane rainforests of southwestern andsoutheastern Ethiopia (Tadesse Woldemariam Gole et. al., 2003).
