    FARMEC was established more than120 years ago. Nowadays the name FARMECmeans the biggest Romanian cosmeticsproducer and one of the largest in Europe. Its main focus is on the cosmetics, deodorantsand household production and distributionactivities. Entirely privatized in 1995, FARMEChas a turnover of 24 million Euros andemploys more than 600 people. Accordingto a recent market study carried out by ACNielsen market research company, FARMECis the local Romanian market leader forcomplexion creams and lotions category and isranked second for the category of productsdesignated for body, hands and feet care. For the face care segment FARMEC hassucceeded in getting ahead of recognizedcompanies such as Beiersdorf and LOreal. After 1990, important aspects in thecompanys strategy were the developmentof its own distribution network andincreasing exports. As a result, at the end of 2000, FARMEChad built its own distribution network of 14commercial offices that cover the mostimportant regions of Romania and an exportturnover that represents 10 percent of thecompanys total turnover. With the majorexport market being Japan, FARMECsproducts are present worldwide, from Europeto the Americas, and Asia, in countriessuch as Greece, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, USA, Canada, UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan and South Korea. As a result of its excellence in businessFARMEC has been certified ISO 9001 since2002 and awarded numerous internationaland national prizes such as: International Award for CommercialPrestige in Madrid, from 1991 to 1994; Silver Hermes Trophy in Greece, 1995; Golden Award for Commercial Prestige inMadrid, in 1997 and 2007.
