UGF/CDN is a network of womens organisations based in the Sanguiprovince of Burkina Faso. Established in 1978 by JacquelineBassolet, the association aims to empower women through incomegenerating activities to further enhance their livelihoods. Thewomen work together to produce a range of natural and organicproducts including dried mango, Shea butter (conventional andorganic) and soap. UGF/CDN strives for high quality products at afair price, with fair trade and ECOCERT certification. Since 2003,UGF/CDN has regularly been exporting Shea butter to the Frenchcosmetics company LOccitane. The association is one of the leadingproducers of Shea butter in Burkina Faso, employing 851 women, ofwhich 515 are responsible for collecting Shea nuts and 336 areinvolved in the creation of Shea butter. Alongside its sustainabledevelopment mission, UGF/CDN works with local women to improveliteracy levels and raise awareness of health, nutrition and familyplanning.Â
