TheNational Handicraft Centre is a private company currently whollyowned by the government of Zimbabwe. The company was established in1989 and links various community groups to the market throughCrafts Marketing. The company is committed to the development ofart and craft producers and the marketing of their wares locally,regionally and internationally. Particular interest is given to thedevelopment of rural women who produce 75 percent of the marketedhandicrafts.Theproducers take pride in the preservation of traditions, skills andvalues that have been passed down through generations and today isbeing shared with the rest of the world. The skills andcraftsmanship is distinctly portrayed in basketry, pottery, ethnicjewellery, traditional musical instruments, wood and stonecarvings, crochet work, appliqu, embroidery, and natural fibre matweaving.Every purchase made goes a long way in alleviatingpoverty.Â
