WildFoods (Pty) Ltd a rural community based business providing the rural poor with income-generating opportunites by sustainably harvesting the wild resources in their areas. We have a 900 ***** food processing factory operating under HACCP standards. The company presently is seeking Halaal certification. The harvesting and export of the Desert Truffle from the remote Kalahari Desert is an important aspect of our operation as it provides much needed income to the nomadic Bushmen (San). The Desert Truffles have a great marketing advantage in the Middle East in particular as the Botswana harvest occurs after the Middle East harvests are finished. The main wild fruit that is processed is the flavourful Marula (Sclerocarya birrea) which is available in thousands of tons a year, most of which rots because there are not enought wild animals and livestock and people to eat it. The fruit has four times as much Vitamin C as oranges, an is high in dietary fibre. The products are in the form of tasty snack foods. The Health Food Industry is showing considerable interest in our products. Preparations are under way to have our products certified Organic as well as Fair Trade.
