The THERMOMASS Building Insulation System is a unique, patented, pre-engineered, highly energy-efficient, insulated concrete sandwich wall system developed, manufactured and supplied by Composite Technologies Corporation (CTC). The two components of the THERMOMASS system are extruded polystyrene insulation and CTC-manufactured, high-strength, fiber-composite connectors, or fasteners. The extruded insulation is sandwiched between two concrete layers. The three layers are held together by the connectors on a 16-inch or 12-inch grid. The system is used in site-cast tilt-up, plant precast, modular precast, tunnel form and poured-in-place concrete panels and walls.Made from a resilient composite matrix, the THERMOMASS fiber composite connector possesses remarkable strength and durability. These connectors are vastly superior to steel rods in sandwich wall panels. They are non-corrosive and possess low thermal conductivity eliminating "thermal short circuits". The proprietary extrusion process and polystyrene resin used to produce insulation creates a closed cell component that contains no gaps or voids. Because of this, the rigid board insulation resists all forms of weathering and water penetration, including water vapor transmission.
