Company Introduction
Magnetite containing 2% total vanadium, expressed as V2O5, together with sodium sulphate and sodium carbonate is fed into the kiln. At elevated temperature or 1350 degrees celcius the vanadium becomes water soluble. The kiln discharge, now referred to as calcine, is quenched in leaching vessels to extract the water soluble sodium vanadate. The washed calcine is then removed and dumped upon a sealed dump. Due to the compounds within the calcine having Hazard Ratings of 1, the deposition requires a liner to the standard required for H:H landfill site as prescribed by the minimum requirements from DWAF.
