Motor manufacturers have long realised that hydrogen is the fuel of the future - it's a totally clean and very efficient fuel (far more so than petrol or diesel). Several have already produced vehicles that are powered by hydrogen fuel cells - the problem is that right now they cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, and the infrastructure to allow the cells to be refilled with hydrogen nationally will require an investment of billions !Five years ago, we took a different approach. Rather than replacing petrol or diesel with hydrogen, we started building systems that added hydrogen to the fuel/air mix of existing cars. Because the volume of hydrogen required was relatively small, we were able to utilise electrolyser technology to produce it under the bonnet, as the car drove along.
