    In the early 1950's Arthur Leger began processing Smoked Herring Bloaters in Cap Pele, New Brunswick. At that time his market was concerntrated in the West Indies. His son Leslie Leger became active in the familly firm in the late 1950's and acquired the business from his father in 1975. In those days, the company's facilities were very modest and operations took place only in the Spring Season. Leslie Leger and Sons Ltd was incorporated in 1979 and the company has shown continuous growth with sales increasing from under $100, 000 dollars in 1976 to Multi-Million dollar sales at the present time. The plant operates 12 Months per year. Operations consisted solely of Bloaters until 1981 when Pickled Alewives (Gaspereaux) was introduced to the market in 1984 an automatic smoker was acquired to process the popular Mild Cured (Dutch Style) Herring. In 1987 Frozen Herring Roe was added to the line of products being processed at the plant. In 1987 a Canada Export Excellence Award was Presented to the Company for successful export marketing. Recently we have added a new building and more equipment with new technologies. This will permit the company to process value added products on the market. Today Leslie Leger & Sons Ltd, is considered by many as the leader in Salt Smoked herring as well as their other products lines. our mandate is to consistently provide superior quality products.
