The CO2 blast equipment introduces solid CO2 pellets mechanically into an airstream that transports them to the gun, blasting the pellets to the contaminated surface. Frozen to -78°C, the solid CO2 pellets are fired at high velocity onto the contaminated surface. On impact the pellets vaporize to carbon dioxide gas and increase in volume by a factor of 700. This process causes the contaminated layers to freeze, contract, weaken and detach themselves from the surfaceThe big advantage of cleaning with CO2 is that the CO2-pellets evaporate after having hit the surface. All that remains is the pulverised contaminant, no additional residual waste is generated! Called "CRYONOMIC？ cleaning" the technique can be undertaken in all types of areas and also in production environments where other abrasive cleaning methods cannot be used.
